Please note: The centre opens at 12pm for tea bar facilities: booking in for visit sessions start at 12.30pm

All you need to book online is:

  • The name and date of birth of the person you are visiting
  • The prison number

Please always request a confirmation email to bring to your visit with you.
You may book a visit up to 28 days in advance.

Public Transport Information

There is NO public transport from Lichfield Stations out to the prison.

Taxis are available at both Lichfield City and Lichfield Trent Valley stations. A return booking is advised in all cases. Cost for a return journey is between £17-£20, so please be prepared.

Help with travel expenses is available via the Assisted Prison Visits Unit (APVU).

Please ask any member of staff in the visits centre for a claim booklet. If you need help completing this, visits staff will give any help required.

Baby Changing Facilities

Both ladies and gents toilets have baby changing stations.


Tea Bar serving hot and cold drinks, snacks, soups and toasties.

Children's Activities

There is a children's crèche area in the visits centre and visits hall. Both have toys, high chairs and reading books. In the visits hall the crèche facilities are overseen by childcare workers and craft activities are undertaken with children aged 2+. All children under 2 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

At Swinfen we pride ourselves on our customer service. All members of staff are very approachable and will give help to signpost to other organisations.

Family Days

Family Days and Dads Inside Days are held throughout the year for eligible prisoners. Please ask staff for information on dates etc.

Family Support

There is a Family Engagement Support Worked based inside the prison who acts as a link between families and the prisoner.

A Visitor Information Booklet is available for all new visitors with general information and advice. Please ask any member of staff for any information required not covered in the booklet


In visitors centre for £1 deposit which is refundable.

Visitors welcome packs are issued to new visitors.

One to one meetings

Please ask a member of staff in the visits centre to be referred for a one to one meeting with the Family Engagement Worker if you have a specific worry or cause for concern.

Parking Facilities

There is parking facilities infront of the visitors centre and an overspill car park by the mini roundabout as you enter 'The Drive'

Prayer Room

There is a Prayer Room in the Visitors Centre.
